No matter the grade level, students love being read to! I even enjoy listening to a story or podcast as an adult because I really like listening to the details and the speaker’s voice. Because of this, I made it a goal to read one picture book a day to my fifth graders so we could reach a goal of reading a total of 180 days/books in the school year.
I started by picking a time of the school day that worked best for our schedule. I knew I needed about 15 minutes in the day. The best time for us to read was 15 minutes at the end of the day after we packed up our things. I also found the cover online of the books we read, printed and cut them out so I could staple it to our 180 Days of Reading board. This was a great culmination so that we could see how many amazing stories we shared as a class.
I have compiled my list of 180 (and more) books on my Amazon Store Front.
Click here to see (and buy) all of the titles on my Amazon Store Front.
I also have a free 180 Days of Reading bulletin board title here!
You can organize the schedule of your read alouds in any way to fit your classroom, but I’ve included a month-by-month guide below…in case you wanted some support in structuring it for the year.
