Here are 5 examples of high impact strategies:

1️⃣Direct Instruction
An instructional strategy that is explicit. Teachers model the skill and give students opportunities to practice in a gradual release format.

2️⃣Success Criteria
Success criteria provide students with an opportunity to assess their own learning. It can look like “I can” statements, rubrics, and are often co-constructed with students.

3️⃣Teacher Clarity
Teacher clarity is understanding what students need to learn and identifying how they will know that they learned it. It requires analyzing standards and planning meaningful instruction and assessments.

4️⃣Classroom Discussion
Classroom discussion involves much more than a teacher asking a class a question. It can be structured and involve students using academic language and specific language frames to have a discussion with their peers.

5️⃣Formative Assessment
Formative assessment is an assessment for learning used to monitor each student’s learning. It informs the student of his/ her progress in becoming proficient, and it also informs the teacher about the effectiveness of instruction and where to go next in the instructional process.

I always used them to display the learning goal, success criteria, or target responses. At the end of specific areas of learning, I would display all the anchor charts so my students could see everything they learned and how each learning goal was a building block for the next.

Five years ago today, the world shut down. I stil

Five years ago today, the world shut down.

I still remember that day so clearly. Our district announced a two-week closure, followed by spring break, with plans to return on April 13th. I prepped our April calendar, cleaned up with my student teacher, and expected to finish the school year as planned.

Well…we all know how that turned out.

Looking back, it’s mind-blowing how much my life has changed since I walked out of that classroom for what I thought was just a short break.

✨ My family and I moved from Southern California to Idaho in June 2020.
✨ I taught 5th grade in person during the 2020-2021 school year.
✨ In May 2021, I left the classroom to become Idaho’s ELA/Literacy Assessment Coordinator.
✨ In 2022, I transitioned into a role at Collaborative Classroom, supporting schools across Idaho, Utah, and Montana.

Now, in 2025, I’m in a place I never expected. Outside of the classroom, outside of a school site, and embracing a whole new path.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this. Life changes. People change. Dreams change.

And sometimes, the biggest changes happen when you least expect them, right when you didn’t even know you needed them.

You have to make a Bloom Ball with your students.

You have to make a Bloom Ball with your students. 😍

A Bloom Ball is a 3-dimensional project that requires students to complete activities moving them through the levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

These are my favorite to make at the end of the year.🥰 I let
students choose a favorite novel and then they complete 12 tasks on 12 different pages to create their Bloom Balls.

It gives students an opportunity to be creative and share what they’ve learned.

I have a whole lesson slideshow and templates that I have created that has everything you need to create Bloom Balls with your students.👏🏻
